The Gift of Groove III: Come Dancing

Is there anything more fun that dancing your legs off to a great local band?  Well, okay, yes, but for the purposes of this post we'll go with no.  Every great band started as the garage band down the street or a house band, like these guys.

Wherever you live, if you look around I guarantee you'll find someone playing hard and from the soul, whether it's a street musician or some old timers who just want to show the young whippernappers a thing or three.  It's beautiful to hear, beautiful to watch.  Take the late Floyd Standifer for example.  Chances are you've never heard of Floyd but if you're a Quincy Jones fan you've probably heard him.  Floyd is the trumpet player on the very end, cut off by the camera till about 3:40.  His quartet played at the New Orleans on 1st S in Seattle every Wednesday night.

Back in my home state there have been some amazing blues bands but my all-time favorite remains Queen Bee and the Blue Hornet Band.  Tanya Browne was soul.

On the other end of the state and the spectrum is a band from Philadelphia that sort of went national.  The Dead Milkmen proved that some of us would dance to anything.

Hmmm, Philadelphia...the Dead Milkmen weren't the only musical phenomenon from the City of Brotherly Love.  Stay tuned.
