Please Don't Be My Neighbor

You know how you're watching a movie and you have a "Hey, it's that guy!" moment but you can't quite place the guy (or woman) but you're creeped out more than you really should be and can't figure out why?  I had one of those moments the first time I saw The Silence of the Lambs.

It was this one.

Screencap thanks to screenmusings.org

He looked kind of familiar when Jodie Foster walked past him the first time but it wasn't until I heard him yelling at Miggs that it struck me that I really ought to know that guy.  When I saw it in the theatre I didn't stick around for the credits but I did check it out when it came out on video:  Friendly Psychopath was played by Don Brocket.  Okay, that's why it creeped me out.  The last time I'd seen him he was hanging out with this guy.

Horked from Nat at Richard Armitage Fan Blog
who horked it from the Russian fan site.

Uh...wait, wrong guy.

PBS publicity still

Anyway, so I was creeped out by Chef Brocket's appearance as Friendly Psychopath in Silence of the Lambs.  I'd hate to see what he might whip up for Hannibal Lecter, wouldn't you?  I think I need something much friendlier to peel me off the ceiling.  In the meantime, any casting directors who might be working on a Mr. Rogers biopic, I think you have your dude up there.  You're welcome.

  1. Normally I sleep in on Saturday, but one Saturday morning a few months ago, I was up especially early for a yard sale/car wash fundraiser. MRN was on PBS and I sat in awe watching the land of make believe, fish feeding, and the traffic light between the living room and the kitchen. I forgot until that moment how much I really loved that show as a kid! He was so cool, calm, and collected. He really was a friend to all of us that grew up on him. He is missed!

  4. Why you wanna be like that? ;)

I disliked Mr. Rogers as a kid. His manner was too soft spoken and creepy for me.
