Veracity: Undetermined

You know how you get those emails that list absurd bits of trivia like "A duck's quack doesn't echo and no one knows why"?  And there's always some jerk who replies all with just the link to snopes and nothing else, as if to say, "Here's your sign!"  I'm frequently that jerk although I'm getting better.  For the record, anyone who's ever lived near a farm with ducks can tell you that, oh yes, a duck's quack does indeed echo.  Loudly.  Anyway, there are a bunch of pieces of trivia rattling around in my head that I can't spin into full posts so I thought I'd list them here along with some ridiculous additions.  With some of these you can find out the truth of the matter by clicking the link up there and feel free to call bullshit on me in the comments.  Ready?

Johnny Cash was once sued by the US government.

Van Halen's standard performance contract always called for a bowl of M&Ms with the brown ones removed.

John Denver was a military sniper.

The secret formula for Coca Cola is so classified that at any one time only two people know it and they each only know half and they never travel together.

Jerome Bonaparte died of injuries he sustained while walking his dog in Central Park.

George Clooney, Jeff Goldblum and Tom Cruise have all died in falls from the Kauri Cliffs in New Zealand.

There's a members only club inside Disneyland.

Okay, I think that's enough.  Like I said, check it out for yourself.  Some of those are on snopes and some are not.  I don't think I've used John Denver before for anything so I'll do that now.  Have a great weekend!

  1. I'm confused : how can someone who is actually and demonstrably alive be claimed to have died?

  2. It's like Mark Twain said..."Reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated." Clooney, Goldblum and Cruise are significant because they all supposedly died in the same place.

  3. Fascinating stuff! I'm surprised which of the rumors are true.

I still chuckle when I think of the "ring of fire" toilet seat used by Johnny Cash that you mentioned on my blog!

  4. It's never the ones you think are true, is it?

  5. Well I'm just glad the John Denver trivia wasn't true. I certainly didn't think it was... but I've been wrong before! Thanks for the song. :)
