On The First Monday After Thanksgiving A Blogger Gave To Me...

*Shhhh*  The kids are sleeping in on their last day of Thanksgiving vacation.  NOW it's Christmas music time so I thought I'd start off with a Monday morning mashup that's sure to get your booty moving.  Okay, maybe that's just me.  I'll be listening to at least one of these repeatedly after the kids get up so you're welcome to start without me.  Ready?

The Christmas song "The Twelve Days of Christmas" is actually a reference to the twelve days between Christmas day and Epiphany.  Snopes, as always, has a great discussion of some of the legends surrounding it.  Being in list form it's ripe for parody and abuse, like the following.  Bob and Doug Mackenzie came sweeping down from The Great White North in the early 80's with this one.  If you're having a hard time deciphering the Canadian, a touque (as in 5 golden touques) is a knit hat.  If you don't get it then step off, eh?  Oh wait, step off is if you're doin' the Humpty Hump.  Take off, eh!

I've talked about Straight No Chaser before.  They started out as an acapella group at Indiana University and there's still a SNC there but the professional group was a 90s incarnation.  This performance from 1998 went viral in 2006 and since then they've reformed, gotten a record deal and become a staple during PBS pledge drives.  They're currently touring and I'm sure they'll be doing this a LOT.

The new Muppets movie opened last week and while I'm sure Jason Segel is awesome in it for me there's no human companion they can possibly have that can top John Denver.  This one is from the 1979 special A Christmas Together.

Have a great Monday!

  1. I didn't know the SNC bit -- excellent, and they succeeded in creating a parody that is even harder to remember one's place in for the performer than the original song. Thanks so much.

  2. Hi Jazzy,
    Well, I guess your post here will be a warm up to my Thursday Dec.1st post of "The 12 Days of____" parody video I have in the works for my blog--"Something About Love (A) found at www.gratianads90.wordpress.com--and to complement another blogger. So, please check with me on Thursday when my video will be revealed.
    Cheers! Grati ;->
    P.S. And I also have another parody--this time a poem--set to post on Wednesday. But I hope to keep the nature of that one a surprise until Wednesday. Ha!
