Monday Morning Run Rudolph Running Mashup

We've already discussed my love of Chuck Berry, yes?  Yes, on another Monday a while ago.  I want you all to know that it's really difficult to type while my butt is grooving.  Just sayin'.  Anyway, the most famous version of this song is Berry's, of course, but it's irresistible to most rocker boys.

If you've subjected yourself to my loopy Robin Hood fanfic over on wattpad you'll know that Brian Setzer is set to make an appearance in it.  He hasn't yet and I pinky swear I'll update it soon but he probably won't be doing this one so you'll have to listen to it here.  This is from the Brian Setzer Orchestra Christmas Extravaganza in 2005.

Chuck Berry's biggest fan is Keith Richards.  As I was doing research for this post I discovered a fascinating bit of Keef trivia:  he was part of the school choir that sang at Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1953.  Can you picture that?  Reportedly he has perfect pitch which is important for a school choir but less so when you're a rocker.  This version is really cool, though, and he's backed here by Toots and the Maytals.

There he was, the man, in the first frame of the Keith Richards video.  Berry didn't actually write this one.  It was written in the late 50s by the writing team of Johnny Marks and Marvin Brodie.  I can't find anything else about Brodie, but Johnny Marks also wrote "Have A Holly Jolly Christmas," "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," and "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," among other standards.  Berry's version peaked at 69 on the Hot 100 in 1958 but had a second wind after it was included in the movie Home Alone in 1990.

Have a great Monday...this Rudolph has a bunch of running to do!

  1. Interesting music history you've unearthed there. You can get a REAL mashup if you play all the videos at the same time, LOL!
