Signed, Sealed, Delivered

My husband is addicted to Pawn Stars.  Like, if I hear the phrase "back in the day" one more time I might go postal.  Seriously?  When you start an explanation of the significance of 13th Century Italian poetry with the phrase "back in the day" you need to reconsider using it.  The episode I was held hostage with...er, watching last night on Netflix,  "Like A Rolling Chum" from season 3, involved getting Bob Dylan's autograph on an original pressing of his 1970 album Self Portrait to increase its value.  As it turned out Dylan was in Vegas at the time so naturally store owner Rick sent store stooge Chumley on this Very Important Mission.  Dylan has at times been churlish about signing anything so Rick seemed to be operating on the "angels protect fools and children" principle and it worked.  Unfortunately he signed it "To Chumley" which raised its value only a fraction of what his signature alone would have.

The thing that makes Dylan's signature valuable (aside from the fact that he's freaking Bob Dylan) is that asking for one is a crap shoot.  Which brings me to Richard Armitage (yes, I know, save it).  I've spent the last few days reading delighted messages from other fans, from the UK to Singapore, thrilled to have gotten the signed photos they requested months ago.  I don't even want to think about the amount of time this guy spent signing pictures, books and other ephemera while on vacation.  Really, dude?  Thanks.  Cloud 9 is pretty full right now.  The monetary value of your autograph is going to be nil but its worth to your fans is priceless.  Have some Stevie Wonder on the house.

  1. You mean that you haven't asked for an autographed picture?!! Shame!

    I haven't either. :D

    Doubt I ever will.

  2. So glad I haven't ever had to watch Pawn Stars...the previews I've seen on TV are more than enough. I don't know about you, but the generous nature is part of what makes me proud to be an RA fan.

  3. I think about it every now and again but I don't know how I might explain that one to my in-laws (or my brother, who would tease me mercilessly about it).

  4. I'm in the same camp. I am always delighted to read about the joy people feel when they receive their RA autogRAphs but I have no interest in one for myself.

  5. P.S. I wonder how RA will keep up once The Hobbit makes him an international superstar?

  6. Maybe we should start a Richard Armitage Carpal Tunnel Syndrome surgery fund? Oh, wait he's in the UK, never mind.

  7. My dad is a big fan of these "recycling junk" shows -- pawn stars, pickers, etc.

  9. Jazzy,
    I found the secret to heaven on earth--and it has nothing to do with people in side by side bath tubs in commercials (ha!). Nope! We bought my hubby wireless earphones so he can hear his tv shows--including Pawn Stars and *shudder* "Storage Wars"--but I don't have to listen to them while I"m trying to write. The ear phones cost $20--well worth the price. Ha!
    Cheers! Grati ;->
    P.S. I also hope that RA didn't spend all of his time off signing autographs. But I'm thrilled for the ladies who were thrilled to receive his personal replies. That is so courteous of him. But with international stardom beckoning, I doubt that he'll be able to keep up with the fan correspondence--even with a team to help him do that.

  10. Thanks for the tip, Grati, I might have to invest in some of those!
