Bye, Bye Miss American Urban Legend

Don McClean has FINALLY cleared up the confusion about where he wrote "American Pie."  There was confusion?  Huh.  It seems that a bar in Saratoga Springs, NY has been saying for years that McClean wrote the song on cocktail napkins there but he says he wrote it in Cold Spring, NY and Philadelphia and debuted it at Temple University (because, on the whole, wouldn't you rather be in Philadelphia, too?).  Why is this significant?  Doesn't February make you shiver?  It made him shiver and the anniversary of the Day the Music Died was yesterday.  Can you name all the references in this song?  If you can, leave it in the comments and no cheating.  Have a great weekend!

  1. Ah, I remember this song... hated it with a passion back in the day...the most overplayed song since My Heart Will Go On. *creaks in her rocker*

It refers to Buddy Holly's death, right? Anything else I've blanked from my mind ;)

  2. Creaking in your rocker, listen to you. If you were that old, judiang, you wouldn't have to ask whose death it refers to, right? But yes, Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens.
