Rest Easy, Davy

Davy Jones of the Monkees died today in Florida of an apparent heart attack.  He raised horses in Central Pennsylvania for a couple of decades, keeping to himself but occasionally playing free shows around the area.  I saw him at one and he was wonderful, bantering with the small town crowd like it was Vegas.  He's also the subject of one of my favorite celebrity kindnesses.  In the 60s he witnessed an elderly woman  being hit by a car while she was crossing the street and he not only visited her in the hospital everyday he also paid her bill.  From everything I've ever heard about him he was a truly kind man.  Rest easy, Davy.

  1. Thanks for sharing that. I admit I've never really known much about him other than he was English and a Monkee.

  2. My love of the Monkees its a direct result of Vanessa and you introducing me to them when I was about 6 or 7. Loved your Christmas post of their Christmas song by the way...dunno if I ever commented. One of my favorite songs they sing! Micky was always my favorite (remember my curly perm?) but Davy always had the witty camara looks on the show. Didn't he play at (what used to be) Bland's Park once? I was saddened to hear the news today. He will be missed.

    1. LOL, I remember you sneaking downstairs to watch "Head" with us...we were so paranoid there was going to be something really brain twisting in it.
