This is not another hallucination though I definitely have had my share. Long time readers know about my crush on Tom Petersson, the gorgeous bass player from Cheap Trick who totally set me up for a lifetime of weakness for the bass player in whatever band I happened to be into at the time. John Taylor from Duran Duran, for example, who is still a fox and I swear I'm getting to the point.
I don't generally blog about fandom events (unless I'm pissed off about something) but I do happily visit everybody else's blog and Twitter to share in the worldwide nervous breakdown because it's exhilirating and funny and you all know I love to laugh, mostly at me. During the Wellington premiere last November I was standing in my kitchen reading Twitter updates on my phone when "Surrender" by Cheap Trick came on the radio. By itself it always gets me (like with "Born to Run" I always have to be really careful of my speed if I'm driving) but at that moment it seemed like a cosmic nudge to give in to all the Hobbit hoopla. I normally don't need nudges but, you know, it certainly didn't hurt.
So last night while I was following along with the fan event on Twitter I heard it again twice about an hour apart. Same station, once on the afternoon dj's show and then on Nights With Alice Cooper. Sounded like a direct order to me so, yeah, I'll get right on that. I guess this means I need to see Desolation of Smaug before it's been out for a couple of weeks. The sacrifices I make for this fandom. Anyway, have a great day whatever you're doing.
