God Rest Your Velvet Soul

There are a couple rock birthdays this weekend including David Bowie's 65th and what would have been Elvis Presley's 76th.  It would also have been the 45th birthday of Mother Love Bone and Malfunkshun lead singer Andrew Wood.  L'Andrew made no bones of wanting to be a Rock Star, a strange but beautiful specimen in Seattle's mostly laid back grunge scene.  He died of a heroin overdose before he made it big but his brothers in arms have refused to let his spirit die.  He was the subject of Temple of the Dog's beautiful "Say Hello 2 Heaven" (frequently thought to be Kurt Cobain) and his old MLB pals made sure he was included in the Singles soundtrack.  Here's to you, Stargazer, wherever you are.
